Message from the Elders regarding Indoor Worship Service

December 13th, 2020

COVID-19 Update

Dear Canyon View Family,

As many of you have heard, the US Supreme Court has recently issued a couple of rulings indicating that some of the restrictions placed on churches are not constitutional.  At Canyon View, we have worked hard to ensure that we are in compliance with the law.  That is why we are outside Sunday mornings.  However, the Elders are aware that soon the weather will not be conducive to having class and worship outdoors.  At that time, we will move worship and class indoors.  This move may happen with little or no notice.

When the move happens, we will continue to broadcast services via the FM transmitter for the drive-in service. However, our brothers and sisters in their cars will not be able to see the preacher or song leader.  As before, when we move indoors, we will wear our masks and maintain social distancing.

The Elders understand that our members have different personal health concerns, different tolerances for risk, different views on the virus, and different understandings of our call to worship.  We will continue to offer the online worship for those who are at a higher risk.

God is in control.  There have been viruses and diseases from the time before Christ.  Viruses likely spread among Christians during the first century as well.  God knew the coronavirus would come.  We believe he knew that churches would face tough decisions on how to respond.  We will continue to worship without fear—but not recklessly because the virus is real.

We constantly pray for the congregation and for wisdom.

In Christian love,

The Elders of Canyon View Church of Christ

Back to School Ministry Thank You

A Back-to-School update:

Your generous donations this unusual school year have provided an abundance of learning and health-related supplies.  We’ve already made two deliveries. Both schools were overwhelmed by the outpouring of your giving.

This is a  huge “THANK YOU” to everyone in the Canyon View family who donated backpacks, school supplies and money for this very different school year.  Your generosity allowed our congregation to reach out to three learning facilities.  Beside the usual back-to-school items, we were able to provide “on request” supplies that were unique to distance learning and home visits. The staff at each site was overwhelmed by your outpouring of support.

Keep in mind that this is a once-a-year community outreach. Please continue to support the on-going ministries of Blue Bags and Ronald McDonald House which are year-round examples of “caring and action in the community”.

Carol Simonson

Here is a letter from Eileen Moreno, Ed.D, Principal at Carlson Elementary:

Thank you, your church, and the retirement center for your generous donations and the purchase of the planners. We are so appreciative and gratified for having this partnership with you.  We are also very pleased to continue the Blue Bags food distribution.
As you know, this is a challenging time for schools and unfortunately we hear the negative more often than positive so having the support of the community definitely helps to keep things in perspective and makes us happy. Thank you for that!

In addition, we will continue to work with the Jackie Robinson Y and two elementary schools to purchase items that have been identified by school staff as newly necessary during this atypical school year…items like student planners, individual whiteboards, and hygiene items.  Normal school supplies continue to be needed. We will gladly shop if you wish to donate through Canyon View by check, cash, or on-line.
If you have questions or comments, please talk with Carol Simonson or email her at casimosd@aol.com.

Blood Donations Needed

San Diego Blood Bank LogoThe San Diego Blood Bank is in need of donors.  Since several Canyon View members have donated in the past, here is updated information for those who might consider scheduling an appointment. Their website is sandiegobloodbank.org. or, if you already have an account, MySDBB.org which is a new portal. Also, you can call 1-800-469-7322 to schedule an appointment. At this time, appointments are required. No walk-ins are permitted.  The Blood Bank is slowly putting bloodmobiles back into service but the majority of donors are going to the established 6 donation sites.  If you schedule an appointment, please ask for your donation to be credited to our Canyon View account.  The code is CVCV, which is a change.  Thank you, in advance, for considering this incredible service of giving.

If you have questions or comments, please contact Carol Simonson or Kenneth Heath.

Auditorium Worship Service

Dear Canyon View,

After two and a half months, we are finally able to open our building to a worship service in the auditorium on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM, starting June 7th.  It has been a long wait. We are thankful for your prayers, patience, and understanding during this time. Please continue being patient as we will be proceeding slowly, cautiously, and prayerfully.

As before, we are always concerned about everyone’s health and safety, and we are aware that not everyone is ready for worship in our auditorium. Therefore, we will continue the 8:00 AM Drive-In and Courtyard Service.  The 10:00 AM Online Service will continue as well.

For the 10:00 AM Auditorium Service, a nursery and toddler room will be available for you to supervise your own children. In the nursery it is 0-1 year old and in the toddler room 1-2 years old. Please be sure to write your name and contact number on the whiteboard as you enter so that we will have a record of who has used the room.  There will be “busy bags” available if you wish to keep your children with you. At a later date, we expect to add a 20-minute children’s worship for children 3 years old to the third grade during the 10:00 AM auditorium sermon.  The youth ministry will not be meeting in person this Sunday, June 7th.  Austin, our youth minister, is working out a plan that will be communicated to parents in future announcements that will outline how we will continue to serve the youth in our congregation as we phase into reopening the building for use.

In keeping with the State of California guidelines, there is an imposed limit of 100 people in the building at a time.  The pre-screening medical protocol is in effect. Please refer to the Covid Protocol for Canyon View sent to you last week by mail and email or view the documents here: COVID Worship Service Protocols.

These assemblies will each have their own method of fellowship and interaction.  We pray that everyone will make the best-informed decision about which service is right for them at this time. The most important thing is that you worship!  Our assemblies will continue to be less than an hour and will be God glorifying, encouraging, and simple.

We look forward to the opportunity of being together again!

May God continue to bless you and bless the Canyon View Family.

With the love of Christ,

The Elders of Canyon View

An important Message from the Elders – updated 03/18/19

**An Important Announcement from the Canyon View Elders**

Dear Canyon View Family,

In an effort to do our best to keep each other well during the Corona Virus outbreak, and to help keep it from spreading to our families and friends, the Eldership has decided to implement some of the precautionary measures set forth by the County of San Diego.  These temporary measures are in the interest of public health and make good sense. They are as follows:

  • We ask that senior members, any members who are currently sick, and at-risk members to stay away from ALL church gatherings until the Elders feel it is safe.
  • We will suspend all Canyon View facility gatherings. This includes Sunday and Wednesday gatherings, as well as weekday activities that put members in close proximity to each other. (Ladies Tuesday Bible Class and Card Ministry, MOPS, and Al-Anon)
  • The church office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
  • We will have video services posted on our Facebook page instead of Sunday and Wednesday gatherings. Email reminders will be sent to our members.
  • We will have the all-in-one communion cups available in the office. Please call or email the office for more information.
  • We will postpone the Ministry Fair and Missions Sunday until April.
  • We will suspend the Sunday 6:00 pm worship at Canyon Villas since the attendees are all older members and residents, 55–100 years old.
  • Life Groups will make their own wise choices about meeting together. It is suggested that you do not meet.

These measures are based on official information. The point of the restrictions is more than keeping people from getting sick, it’s about containing the spread to the public. Everyone needs to do their part.

Since we are a family, while we are not together, let’s keep in touch.  Call, email, and text each other frequently. Spend time in prayer, Bible reading, and take advantage of spiritual lessons online.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:37-39

Your servants,
The Canyon View Elders.
